A note from the heart of Appalachia—with roots from the 304

Hey y’all! We’re so glad you found your way to our little corner of the internet. Whether you stumbled in on purpose, clicked a pretty picture & happened to find us, or just got lost in a rabbit hole of mountain-themed merch—welcome to 304 in the House.

We’re the folks behind what you see here, and if you didn’t already guess, we’ve got a soft spot (okay, a giant spot) for Appalachia. The rolling hills & mountains, front porch conversations with a glass of sweet tea or a bottle of pop, backroad adventures, and all the stories that come with ‘em—it’s who we are. It’s in the way we talk, the way we work, and yes… the way we design every single product in our store.

Why “304”?

Both of us are proud to be originally from the 304. For those not in the know, that’s West Virginia’s area code—but to us, it’s so much more than just digits on a phone. It’s home. It’s where we visit family, where we vacation, where we feel grounded. No matter where life takes us, the 304 is where we return to reset, reconnect, and remember who we are.  Those country roads always take us home.

We started this journey to share that feeling. That’s why our designs aren’t just about looking good (though they do)—they’re about belonging. We want you to feel that same sense of pride, whether you’re still living in the mountains, loving them from a little farther away, or know someone who loves the hills & hollers and you want to share it with them.

Why this blog?

We’re storytellers at heart. That’s actually a big part of what we do—not just here in the shop, but over on our YouTube channel, too. We love sharing glimpses of Appalachian life, whether we’re exploring the backroads, cooking up something homemade, or just chatting about the good, the gritty, and the goofy. If you haven’t checked it out yet, consider this your invitation!

We wanted a place where we could share more than just what’s “for sale.” We wanted to share the why. Why that design exists. Why that saying matters. Why we believe this place—Appalachia—is worth living and loving out loud.

And yes, maybe a behind-the-scenes peek or two of our creative process, what inspires us, and the occasional appearance from our Cockapoo Baxter (who, frankly, thinks he runs this whole operation—and he’s not entirely wrong).
